In 2003, The Hague violinist Eva Stegeman took the initiative to found a new chamber music festival in the town where she grew up and studied the violin. Under the name 'Chamber Music Festival Haaglanden' the festival initially started with just three concerts at Kasteel Duivenvoorde in Voorschoten.

During the following years the festival quickly developed into a ten day event with multiple concerts at various different historic locations in and around the city of The Hague (such as: Theater Diligentia, Nieuwe Kerk, Dr A. Philipszaal, Paleiskerk, Het Nutshuis
and Theater aan het Spui), masterclasses, a special Late Night Concert for younger audiences (yearly since 2005), an educational programme for high schools and a unique architectural walk through the historic city centre with live chamber music on the way.

Each year Eva Stegeman invites a group of internationally renowned musicians and artists who gather in The Hague to rehearse, perform and inspire their audiences. The carefully selected program revolves around a different artistic theme (2009: Trendsetters). The festival is known for its personal character and unique atmosphere.

In 2009 the organization changed the name into ‘Internationaal Kamermuziekfestival Den Haag'.
